Funeral services for Malcolm Maurice Ferguson, who passed from this life April 28, 2023, at his residence in McCarley, were held Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Winona, Miss. Visitation was from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m. The Rev. Jay Anderson officiated the service. Interment followed the service in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona.
Mr. Ferguson, 84, was a retired real estate manager. He was an avid tree farmer, having been selected Mississippi Tree Farmer of the Year in 1987, as well as being selected Mississippi Wildlife Conservationist in 1987. He was the first person to receive both honors in the same year.
He was a graduate of Winona High School, Holmes Junior College and Mississippi State University, and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Winona.
Mr. Ferguson was predeceased by his parents, James Vaiden and Edith Fondren Ferguson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Thelma "Priss" Ferguson of McCarley; daughter, Tisha Ferguson Vaughan and husband, William of McCarley; grandsons, Will Vaughan and wife, Katelyn of Little Rock, Ark., Tyler Vaughan and fiancée, Madison Pickens of McCarley, Bailey Vaughan and fiancée, Prestley Smith of Hot Springs, Ark. and Starkville, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Witt Vaughan and Nellah Jane Vaughan of Little Rock, Ark.
He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. James V. Ferguson and wife, Weba of Oxford; Dr. William F. Ferguson and wife, Ginger of Hernando; sister, Celeste Ferguson Bush and husband, Wayne of Schlater; and a host of nephews. Mr. Ferguson is also survived by his friend and caregiver, Barnett Campbell of Winona.
Pallbearers were Will Vaughan, Tyler Vaughan, Bailey Vaughan, Chuck Ferguson, Chris Bush and Jacob Bush. Honorary pallbearers were Alan Ferguson, Brian Ferguson, Doug Ferguson, John Bush, David Bush, Claiborne Ferguson and Barnett Campbell.
