Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Sue Nelms King Shirley, of Vaiden, were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Michie Cemetery near Vaiden. The Rev. John Lumbley officiated the service. Pallbearers were David Nelms, Ronnie Nelms, Ricky Nelms, Kevin Barfield, Ray Nelms, Mart Nelms and Ethan King.
Visitation was held Thursday, October 10, from 1 p.m. until service time at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shirley, 81, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona. She was born in Arkansas to John and Emma Streeter Nelms on June 30, 1943. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church near Vaiden. She was a retired employee of the former JA Olson Company and Angelica Corporation.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice James (Jason) of Vaiden; sisters, Kathy Greenwood (Terry) and Marcelle Buckner (Jerry), both of Hamburg, Ark.; three grandchildren, Brittany King (Travis), Kristen James (Brandon) and Ethan King (Katie); five great-grandchildren, K.J. Smith, Howie Fultz, Ray Tavares, Baylee Tavares, and Koe King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter "Bud" King and Peter Shirley; her son, Walter Earl "Walt" King; and six brothers.
