The North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael was presented with the National Cemetery Administration Stewardship Award on Tuesday in recognition of superior cemetery performance as verified during a National Cemetery Administration led compliance review.
“Approximately every three years, they come out and do an inspection of 95 standards and measures to make sure we’re doing things correctly,” Cemetery Director William Rhine explained. “It’s a rigorous inspection. They look at our trees, grass, administrative procedures, timelines, headstones, measurements, and more.”
To qualify for this award, the cemetery underwent a rigorous review by a team of NCA subject matter experts, training in evaluation methods. This review determined that the North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery – Kilmichael met or exceeded national targets in equipment, building, and grounds management areas.
The award reads: “This award is in recognition of superior performance in areas of importance to the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) and its customers. The North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery – Kilmichael has demonstrated exemplary performance equal to or exceeding national targets in equipment, building, and grounds management areas. The cemetery’s performance positively supports NCA’s mission, Veterans, and their families.”
