WINONA – A Grenada woman is facing aggravated assault charges in connection with a September shooting.
According to Lt. Blake Herring with the Winona Police Department, Alishay Brown, 25, of Grenada was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting in the parking lot of Triple Stop convenience store on the evening of Sept. 16.
Herring said a Winona woman and two female friends were in the parking lot of Triple Stop when Brown allegedly walked up to the woman and fired a shot at her. The woman ran and hid behind a parked car, but Brown pursued her on foot and continued trying to fire the weapon which had malfunctioned.
“The gun supposedly jammed,” Herring said. “[The victim] said she could hear it clicking.”
Herring said the victim said Brown fired one more time before leaving the scene in another vehicle.
No one was injured in the shooting, Herring said.
In Tuesday’s session of Winona City Court, Brown, who was represented by public defender Lee Bailey, waived her right to a preliminary hearing in the case, and Judge Alan D. Lancaster bound the case over to the action of a Montgomery County Grand Jury. Bond was set at $10,000.
Brown is facing three other charges, trespassing, petit larceny, and malicious mischief, in an unrelated case. She will go before Lancaster on November 8 for those charges.
