A Winona man will face a grand jury for allegedly taking money from a man by force.
Frederick Forrest of Winona was arrested and charged with strong armed robbery in connection with an October 3 incident.
According to testimony from Lt. Blake Herring during a brief preliminary hearing in Winona City Court Tuesday, Forrest allegedly threw the victim down on the ground and stole $75 from him. Herring said the incident occurred on Herring Street in the early morning hours of October 3.
Forrest was arrested on Friday, Oct. 5, and was taken to the Winona Police Department to be questioned.
“He gave the police a lot of trouble after he was arrested,” City Prosecutor Putt Crull told Judge Alan D. Lancaster. “He made threats towards the police.”
Lancaster bound Forrest over to the action of a Montgomery County Grand Jury and continued bond at $20,000. He was also ordered not to have any contact with the victim or members of law enforcement.
In other court business, Christopher Michael Blount of Grenada was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the Winona Police Department, following a traffic stop, 9.5 grams of methamphetamine was allegedly found in Blount’s possession.
Blount waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and Lancaster bound him over to the action of a Montgomery County Grand Jury. Bond was set at $10,000.
