WINONA – A new police officer was hired at Tuesday’s meeting of the Winona Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
The board accepted the resignation of Lt. Blake Herring, who has taken a job with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department. The board accepted Chief of Police Tommy Bibbs’ recommendation to hire Ana McComb, who comes to the department from Birmingham, Ala.
In other city business:
• Haley DeNoon with Families First of Mississippi introduced the board to her organization and gave information on how she can help the citizens of Winona.
• The board voted to fire an insurance claim on a water leak that damaged the parking lot at Harrison Dental Office on Tyler Holmes Drive. At the last meeting of the board, Street Superintendent Tony Palmertree said the parking lot will have to be repaved after the leak.
• Animal Control Officer Arlin Pearson asked the board about invoices he received after assisting the county capture six dogs that attacked a 12-year-old boy last week. The invoices are from the veterinarian’s office for euthanizing the dogs and for sending the animals to be tested for rabies.
Mayor Jerry Flowers suggested Pearson speak with the county first to determine how to proceed.
