Candidates are getting their last minutes stops in as voters prepare to go to the polls to decide who will be Carroll County’s next leaders.
Nex Tuesday, November 5, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and voters must have photo ID. In person absentee voting began Saturday, Oct. 26 and will end on Saturday, Nov. 2. All mail-in absentee votes must be in by Monday, Nov. 4.
Residents will vote for the next chancery clerk, tax assessor/collector, District 2 supervisor and District 3 supervisor.
In the Carroll County Chancery Clerk race, Casey Carpenter, who defeated Christy Noah and Monica Jones in the Democratic Primary, will face Independent candidates Danette Corder-Roland and Jenifer Houston. The winner of the race will succeed longtime Chancery Clerk Sugar Mullins who announced at the end of last year that he is retiring.
In the Carroll County Tax Assessor/Collector race, incumbent Wilton Neal, who defeated Melinda Alderman in the Democratic primary, will face independent candidate Donna Gregg Harper.
In the District 3 supervisor race, incumbent Dill Tucker will face Marvin Coward and Randy Tackett, and in the District 2 Supervisor race, Josh Hurst, who defeated Incumbent Terry Brown in the Democratic Primary Election, will face Jesse Saulter.
Also, residents in District 5 will go to the polls to vote for an election commissioner. The winner will replace Christy Noah, who vacated the seat to run for Chancery Clerk. Jackie L. McKinney, Lisa Clark and Stanton Smith are vying for votes which will decide who will take the seat.
Voters in Carrollton and North Carrollton will also vote at their respective town halls on whether or not the towns should move forward with a two percent tax increase. The increase will be on prepared food and beverages and will go toward tourism, parks and recreations.
Last November, the Town of Vaiden passed its two percent tax and is beginning to see the benefits of the tax.
On Election Night, the Carroll County Development Association and the Conservative will hold an election night reveal party for the 2019 Statewide and County General Elections on Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Carrollton Courthouse. There will be free popcorn and hot chocolate.
