The Town of Vaiden and the Carroll County Christmas Carnival Committee are planning a joint Christmas Carnival on Friday, December 20 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Vaiden Gym.
Jackie McKinney said there would be an entrance fee of $5, and children would be able to go from booth to booth and have the opportunity to win prizes. McKinney said there would be three cash drawings at the end of the night.
She said there would also be music, food and an appearance from Santa Clause. Mayor Mel Hawthorne said the town does something similar every year the Friday before Christmas.
“We have a jumping castle and there are things the kids can build with and make stuff,” Hawthorne said.
“Well, there’s no need in wasting effort. We can join with y’all and work together,” McKinney said.
Hawthorne said the town and the committee could work together to plan the carnival this year. Adding, they didn’t have a Santa Clause appearance, just a fun day for the kids. He said the town also provides food for the kids.
Town Clerk Sonya Greenleaf said the town provides hot dogs, chips and a drink. McKinney said the committee wanted to serve Christmas cookies, punch and things that were kid-friendly.
McKinney said the committee’s long term goal is to turn it into a three-day event.
“We want to hold a Christmas gala, crown Mr. and Miss Christmas and hold a Christmas play,” she said, adding she went to a production in North Mississippi and she could tell it was practiced for a year.
“We can have something like that here,” she said. “God didn’t just give talent to one part and not the other. There’s talent here.”
Plans are underway for the event.
