WINONA – Two Louisville men are in police custody following a traffic stop by Winona Police Department last week.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator with the Winona Police Department, Joshua Matthews and Warren Goss, both of Louisville, were arrested around 4:45 p.m. on January 6, following a traffic stop on Highway 51 near the Powell Street intersection.
According to Herod, police stopped a beige Mercury Grand Marquis that was occupied by two males. In a search of the vehicle, police allegedly discovered two stolen firearms, an undisclosed amount of narcotics, and a large amount of cash.
Matthews was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and some misdemeanor traffic violations.
Goss was charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
“It was later discovered that Warren Goss was wanted by the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana on a case that involved the abuse of a small child,” Herod said in a release.
Both Matthews and Goss appeared before Winona City Judge Alan D. Lancaster in Winona City Court last Thursday. Bond was set at $5,000 for Matthews and $100,000 for Goss.
“I would like to thank the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance with the investigation into this vehicle,” Herod said.
