CARROLLTON – A teen is currently being held without bond for allegedly making threats against his fellow students at Carroll Academy.
According to Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker, Devon Bloodworth, 18, of North Carrollton was arrested and charged with two counts of making terroristic threats in connection with a video that was digitally sent to several students.
Walker said the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department received information Tuesday that Bloodworth was allegedly headed to Grenada with a firearm “to possibly cause bodily harm.” Walker said the Grenada Police Department responded and arrested Bloodworth, found the firearm, and charged him with simple assault.
Two students from Carroll Academy signed affidavits in Carroll County regarding the video threats.
“He did make a video of himself showing firearms and making threats,” Walker said. “People have seen it and passed it around.”
Walker said Bloodworth was arrested without incident at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department in Carrollton around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. He was transported to the Carroll-Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden. Justice Court Judge Jimmy Avant denied Bloodworth bond.
“We provided extra security at the school and made sure everything was safe until he was in custody,” Walker said.
Walker complimented Carroll Academy Headmaster Penny Mitchell and the school for their proactive approach to school safety.
“Last week, Ms. Mitchell met with a Madison County deputy, who is also a private consultant, and a Carroll County deputy, and they met with the board recently to devise a plan to harden the school and make it safer in all aspects,” Walker said.
Mitchell thanked Walker and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department for all their help. Because the incident did not occur on the school campus, Mitchell said securing the school was “basically a precaution.”
“They have been great in working with us,” Mitchell said. “It went as smoothly as it can go in a situation like that.”
