Monday, seniors at Carroll Academy graduated from the school they’ve known for a good portion of their lives. Some began 13 years ago as Kindergarteners, some even further as Pre-K students and some came in between, but all walked the stage together.
Sara Beth Storms and Chloe Richardson, both of Carrollton, were named valedictorian and salutatorian of the Carroll Academy Class of 2019, respectively.
Storms said since coming to Carroll Academy, she has always a friendly competition with Richardson.
“It was really close, my GPA was a 97.94 and hers was a 97.64,” Storms said.
Richardson said the competition made them work even harder.
“It was only a tenth of a point off so we’re very close,” she said. “It was nerve-racking all year. It was a very strict competition. It made both of us try our hardest.”
Storms said she’s active on the varsity dance team, National Art Honors Society, serves as Editor-in-Chief of Yearbook Staff, is a member of Quill and Scroll Journalism Society and Beta Club. Richardson said she’s active in Beta Club, basketball and cheer.
After graduation, Storms plans to attend Mississippi State University and major in computer science.
“I hope to become a software developer and create different apps for phones and computers,” she said.
Storms said she’d considered being a graphic designer, but it changed in the 10th grade to computer science when she began to dig deeper into being a software developer her senior year.
Richardson plans to attend the University of Mississippi and major in pre-med.
“I want to become a psychiatrist. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I want to help people and I figured this could be something fun to do.”
Storms is the daughter of Loretta and Shannon Storms and attends Pentecostal Church of God in Greenwood.
“I would like to thank my parents and teachers of course. They pushed me, encouraged me and told me to work hard in everything I do,” Storms said.
Richardson is the daughter of Don Richardson and Delaney McCrory and attends North Carrollton United Methodist Church.
