An Arkansas man was killed while walking on Interstate 55 Tuesday night.
According to Montgomery County Coroner Allan Pratt, the Montgomery County Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call at 8:09 p.m. on Tuesday reporting that a vehicle had hit something on the southbound lane of Interstate 55 near the 183 mile marker.
When troopers arrived at the scene the discovered a pedestrian had been struck by a car.
The pedestrian, identified as Frank J.P. Smith, 20, from Pine Bluff, Ark., was taken by MedStat ambulance to Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital.
Pratt said he pronounced Smith dead at the hospital and contacted family members a short time after.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
