WINONA – A local man is facing felony charges for allegedly burglarizing a Herring Street home.
Kwontavius Ford, 20, was arrested and charged with burglary in connection with a February 9 break-in at a home in Winona.
According to Officer Bryant Bell with the Winona Police Department, officers were dispatched to an unoccupied home on Herring Street around 8:30 a.m. on February 9. When Lt. Blake Herring arrived on the scene, the suspect was standing on the front porch, and he fled on foot shortly after.
“He was wearing a camouflage jacket,” Bell said.
Bell said he and Herring along with Deputy Calvin Young from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department tracked the suspect down Herring Street to Austin Street.
“We found him hiding in a storage shed behind a house on Knox Street,” Bell said.
Bell said the suspect was not wearing the camouflage jacket when he was found. Officers arrested him and charged him with trespassing.
As the investigation continued, Bell said officers found the jacket discarded in a dog kennel on February 14. Bell said during the investigation, the owners of the Herring Street residence, who stay there part-time, identified the jacket as an item taken from the home.
“So he was wearing the evidence,” Bell said. “On February 14, we arrested him again and charged him with burglary.”
In last Thursday’s session of Winona City Court, Ford was bound over to the action of the grand jury by Judge Alan D. Lancaster. Bond was set at $25,000.
