WINONA – A local man stands accused of robbing an individual at gunpoint.
Jarquez Terrell Duren, 28, of Winona has been arrested and charged with armed robbery in connection with an incident at a residence on Rosamond Street.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator for the Winona Police Department, on June 6 an individual was alleged robbed at gunpoint at a Rosamond Street residence. Herod said Duren was established as a suspect, but he could not be located by police.
Herod said Sunday he was arrested on the west end of Campbell Street.
“A concerned citizen went out of their way to give us an exact description of the clothing [Duren] was wearing and an exact description of where he was,” Herod said.
Officers Matt Miletello and Orlando Bolden responded to the call, and Duren was seen getting into a white vehicle. The officers initiated a traffic stop. Herod said when the officers alerted the vehicle to pull over, Duren fled the vehicle on foot.
“After a foot pursuit, he was taken into custody by Miletello and Bolden,” Herod said.
Herod said the assistance of the public in apprehending the suspect goes back to what Winona Chief of Police Tommy Bibbs has said about citizens giving police necessary information if a crime occurs.
“Then [Bibbs] urged citizens to contact the police, this is a perfect example of a citizen of the community doing their part,” Herod said. “The citizen taking the initiative reporting to us, that is what led to [Duren’s] arrest.”
Duren is currently being held in the Webster County Jail on a bond of $500,000. He was also charged with resisting arrest.
