Since Hannah Key and Faith Gammel both began school at Winona Elementary in the third grade, it has always been a friendly battle between the two. Key and Gammel will graduate Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the 2019 class of Winona High School, respectively.
The two are both heavily involved at the school. They’re both members of Mu Alpha Theta, Leadership Montgomery County, Super Scholars, Beta Club, and are Tiger cheerleaders. Key is a member of the soccer team, and Gammel is in honor choir.
“We’re in everything together, and we’re always around each other, so we just became friends,” Gammel said.
Key has a 99.15 and Gammel has a 98.07 -- separated by a point. It’s always been that way.
“It’s always been a friendly competition between the two of us,” Key said.
And a friendly competition is always good.
The two will address their family and friends in Tiger Stadium on May 24 when they officially become graduates of Winona High School.
Key is the daughter of Jenifer and Jamey Key and attends First Baptist Church in Winona. After she graduates, she plans on attending Mississippi College and major in biochemistry. She wants to either be a trauma surgeon or an orthopedic doctor. But, she’s still deciding between the two.
Gammel is the daughter of Dr. Dewayne and Amy Gammel and attends North Winona Baptist Church. After she graduates, she plans to attend Mississippi University for Women and major in Music Therapy. She wants to become a music therapist and work in hospitals.
