Trick-or-treaters in Carrollton and North Carrollton are invited to the historic Carrollton square and in front of Carrollton Baptist Church on Washington Street for trunk-or-treating on Wednesday, October 31.
According to Carrollton Mayor Pam Lee said the town will celebrate Halloween with its annual trunk-or-treating, thanks to local churches.
Lee said the Carrollton United Methodist Church membership will set up trunk-or-treating around the Carrollton Courthouse. Carrollton Baptist Church will set up its trunk-or-treat in front of the church on Washington Street.
Lee said Carrollton Baptist Church will have trunks ready to go by 6 p.m. to allow commuters working in Greenwood or Winona to make it home in time for the event.
“Anyone who wants to come and have a trunk is welcomed,” Lee said. “We hope everyone enjoys the fellowshipping with one another and looking at all the cute costumes.”
North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan said he is encouraging trick-or-treaters to head to Carrollton for trunk-or-treating.
“North Carrollton Baptist Church will join the festivities at the courthouse,” Strachan said. “We are encouraging folks in North Carrollton to go to the courthouse as a community thing between the two towns.”
Strachan said things will get kicked off around the courthouse around 5 p.m.
In Vaiden, trunk-or-treat will be held on Lee Street from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cars can set up at 3:30 p.m. Cars are encouraged to decorate their vehicles.
In Winona, the inaugural harvest festival and trunk-or-treat will be held Wednesday, October 31. The event will take place downtown on Front Street, and Summit Street. Organizer Calbrina Woods said she wanted to hold the event as a way to bring the community together.
She said from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., local businesses and civic groups will be lined up on Front Street with games for children under 13.
Small Town Hotdogs will be on site handing out free hotdogs to children under 13, North Winona Baptist will have popcorn, and First Baptist Winona will have snow cones.
Woods said there will also be hayrides, jumpers and the fire department and Med Stat will be on hand for children to explore the fire trucks and ambulances.
At 7 p.m., a trunk or treat with approximately 120 vehicles participating will begin and will go until all the candy is gone.
Kilmichael is preparing for its community-wide trunk-or-treat, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is hosted by Friends of the Kilmichael Library and the Kilmichael Baptist Church.
Rebecca Wilson said usually the church would put on a separate trunk-or-treat but this year, they wanted to do something combined to bring the community together.
“We hope to have the entire square filled up,” Wilson said.
Kerrie Varnes said there will be hay rides, games, face painting, cake walk and photo ops. “We’re making it a carnival-type thing. We’re encouraging groups, organizations and businesses to come out and set up for the trunk or treat.”
Varnes and Wilson said if anyone wants to participate in the trunk-or-treat, they should set up at 5:30 p.m. on the square. They said they’re encouraging people to decorate their trunks as well and children should wear kid-friendly costumes.
They said concessions will be sold by the Christmas on the Square committee and there will be hotdogs, popcorn and other goodies.
