Four are currently vying for the two elected seats on the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District – two for the District 1 in the north part of the county and two for District 2 in the southern part of the county.
According to Circuit Clerk Lanelle Martin, running for the District 1 seat are Brandye Waugh Brannon and Kolandty Williams, both of Duck Hill. Loretta Hopkins of Montgomery County and Jill Greenlee White of Kilmichael have qualified to run for the District 2 seat.
As is mandated in the school consolidation legislation, the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School Board will be made up of three members from Winona appointed by the Winona Board of Aldermen and two will be elected by Montgomery County voters living outside the Winona city limits.
Martin said Montgomery County voters, who live outside the Winona city limits, will voter to fill the two school board seats in the November 6 General Election.
Martin said absentee voting for the November 6 election has started at the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk’s office located in the Montgomery County Courthouse in Winona.
“Voters can come and absentee vote Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in our office,” Martin said. “They need to remember to bring photo identification to vote.”
Martin said for those wanting to absentee vote, they must have a reason. A few approved reasons to absentee vote are because the voter will be out of the county on election day, they are temporarily or permanently disabled, they are 65 years old or older, or they have to work on election day.
