The Montgomery County Election Commission will soon have a new home in the Montgomery County Courthouse.
After a discussion with the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Monday, the commission will set up an office in the sheriff’s former office on the northeast corner of the building, and the former forestry office will store voting machines and other records for the commission.
Sheriff Jeff Tompkins and Chief Deputy Mark Beck will move behind the courtroom in what used to be a witness room and law library. However, front office of the sheriff’s department will still be located in the northwest corner of the courthouse.
At the request of Katie Burns, commission chair, the board of supervisors also voted to purchase five laptop computers, three scanners, and a copy machine at a cost of $5,208 for the new office.

• The board is moving forward with the construction of a covered, multi-purpose arena at the Montgomery County Coliseum. The county has applied for a $263,000 Rural Development Community Facilities Grant, and last month, the county advertised for an architect to design the arena.
The county has already received additional funding through a Small Municipalities Grant for the project, and North Central Planning and Development District’s Chris Pope said he hopes construction on the project can begin in May.
