With the holiday season upon us, the Winona Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted to provide funds to the upcoming Winona Christmas parade as well as to kick off the city’s annual “Shop Winona” advertising campaign.
The board allocates $3,000 per year to go to cover expenses of the annual parade as well as the six-week long “Shop Winona” advertising campaign.
The Winona Christmas Parade is scheduled for December 3, 2018, at 7 p.m. in downtown Winona.
In other city business:
• The board voted to begin condemnation proceedings on property located at 516 Church Street.
• Calbrina Woods presented the City of Winona a cashier’s check for $228 of money left over from donations made to the Halloween Harvest and Trunk or Treat, held last Wednesday in Winona. The money will be given to Winona Main Street to go toward next year’s event.
• The board accepted the resignations of Martha Carradine and Steve Chisolm from the Winona Police Department.
• The board agreed to seek a second bid for bathroom renovations at the Winona-Montgomery Public Library. The project includes refurbishing the bathrooms as well as making them handicapped accessible.
• The board accepted the resignation of Randy Johnson from the Winona Street Department.
• The board voted to authorize Winona Mayor Jerry Flowers to proceed with the recreational trail construction project at the Winona Recreational Park. Flowers said the project should begin on November 15 and should be completed within 180 days. Double S Construction will be building the trail.
• The board accepted the resignation of Timothy Pearson as the Winona Animal Control Officer and Code Enforcement Officer. The board hired Arlin Pearson to fill the vacancy.
• The board voted to advertise for bids to tear down a building, located at 107 Sterling Ave., behind the Winona Post Office that has been condemned. Alderman David Ware was the lone dissenting vote.
• The board approved a beer license for Dollar General in Winona.
