A Montgomery County child mauled by a pack of dogs March 15 - 12-year-old Aden Green - is on the road to recovery, according to Sheriff Bubba Nix.
Nix said the update he received Wednesday morning included news that Green was breathing on his own and had asked for a Coca-Cola, which was met with joy by his family.
Later on Wednesday, family members reported that Green had undergone another surgery on Wednesday and he remained in ICU at press time.
“He still has a long way to go,” Nix said.
Green’s cousin Amber Davis started a GoFundMe page to help offset Green’s medical costs at Prayers for Aden Green. The goal is to raise at least $8,000, with almost $7,000 already pledged. Davis also posts updates on Green’s care and recovery on the page.
“Aden is no longer on the vent, and they did NOT insert a tracheostomy tube. Know what that means? HE'S BREATHING ON HIS OWN!!!!!” read a Monday post. Davis also reported that during a recent visit, Green opened his eyes periodically, smiled, and responded to questions with a nod.
“The hospital chaplain came by and prayed with him this afternoon,” Davis posted at one point. “Afterward, he kept trying to sit up and trying to talk. It’s kind of difficult for him at this point since his throat is pretty sore from the tube for the vent.”
Davis said although Green’s voice is a whisper, when he asked for a Coca-Cola, he was heard.
“This boy is STRONG!” Green posted. “Keep the prayers coming, because he still has a long road ahead of him, but it is very obvious he is a fighter.”
