Twelve students at Winona High School will have the chance to sing with the Delta State Honor Choir.
Choir Director Megan Brock said she asked her students if anyone would be willing to learn the music, and she had some willing participants.
“They have to sing two excerpts and learn how to read sight music,” she said.
Brock said the students would have to follow a clinical and learn how to read the music. She said it doesn’t automatically give them a choir scholarship to Delta State, but it could lead to one.
“It’s a huge thing to put on any college application, and they will be able to get them. It’s a statewide honor choir, and only a select group gets to participate,” Brock said.
She said learning that 12 of her students made it is a great accomplishment.
“They’re a great group of kids,” she said.
The 12 students, along with many others, will go through a two-day rehearsal period and a clinical program, which is nationally recognized to work with the students. At the end, the students will put together a concert on the last day.
Brock said the cost is $50 per student, and it includes their meals and t-shirt.
“I’m really proud of them,” she said.
