A Winona man is currently in police custody following a shooting at a convenience store Wednesday morning.
Rodney Peery, 44, of Winona is charged with four counts of aggravated assault in connection with a shooting that occurred at Pilot Travel Center, located at 403 SW Frontage Road in Winona, just before 11 a.m. on April 8.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator with the Winona Police Department, Peery stands accused of shooting Eddie Green of Winona near the gas pumps at Pilot Travel Center at 10:43 a.m. Peery was taken into custody at the scene without incident, Herod said.
Herod said the charges also reflect the danger to two children in Green’s vehicle and an adult female, who was in another vehicle nearby. However, no one else was injured in the shooting.
“The call was dispatched to us as an active shooter,” Herod said. “I want to thank the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, the Duck Hill Police Department, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol for responding and their assisting at the scene.”
Herod said Green was transported from the scene by ambulance, on his way to a hospital in Jackson.
