The last fruit of the spirit may be the hardest one, and it is the fruit of Self-Control. What do you think of when you think of self-control? I think of times when I want to say something back to somebody, but I don’t. I think of when I want an extra piece of chocolate cake, but I don’t get it. I think of when I want to take a short cut or do something the easy way, but I don’t.
Self-control is all about choice. Choosing to control myself in all situations and in different areas of my life. Now I can tell you that it is not easy for me. In some areas I’m really good and in some the Lord is still working on me.
One of my favorite verses about this is 1 Peter 4:7, “The end of all things is near, so be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”
We will live in crazy times in our town, our state, our country, and our lives and it is important for us to be able to be devoted to the things of the kingdom and for that to happen we must be able to have self-control.
So this week, think of ways that you are good at controlling yourself and ways that you are not, and the ways that you are not, pray for help in those areas and the Lord will surely do it. Remember Ms. Faulk loves you, but Jesus loves you more.
