Monday evening the Mississippi Municipal League held a legislative planning meeting at North Central Planning and Development in Winona. A new municipal officials orientation was held prior to the legislative meeting. Carroll and Montgomery counties were represented at the meeting where there was an update on the 2025 legislative session on legislation important to municipalities. There was also a discussion on upcoming legislation and priorities for the 2026 legislative session.
“This was a great turnout from the counties of the North Central Planning district and we appreciate MML and all their efforts to help cities and towns,” North Carrollton Mayor and North Central Mayors Association Vice President Ken Strachan said.
In attendance were the officials for the 2025-2029 term. From Vaiden Mayor Lesia Hemphill, Alderwoman Mary Lofton, Alderman Theodore Purnell, Alderwoman Willette Thomas, and Alderwoman Kimberly White; from Winona, Mayor Jerry Flowers, Aldermen Katrina Bays, and Alderman Chris Herring; from Duck Hill, Mayor Al White, and Alderman Chris Caldwell, Alderman Michael Allen, Alderwoman Shernell Brown-Everett, Alderwoman Lakisha Small, and Alderwoman Jackie Eskridge; from Kilmichael, Alderman Matt Bennett, and from North Carrollton, Mayor Ken Strachan and Alderman Eddie Holman. MML Executive Director Shari Veazy, MML Deputy Director Robbie Brown, and MML Lobbyist Trey Bobinger were in attendance.
