During a March 2024 meeting of the Carroll County Board of Supervisors, North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan who is also the county emergency management director, told Supervisors that he had been working with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency on having a weather awareness program at Marshall Elementary School before school is out this year or in the fall semester.
“We got right to work on this and I’m proud it worked out to get the program in before school was out for this year, MEMA does these programs throughout the state and it takes a lot of planning and we got it done. There is an abundance of information on severe weather preparedness for the students and the supplies with the activity books are provided. This was a great program, and we look forward to having more programs in the 2024-2025 school year,” North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan said.
65 students of the third-grade level participated in the severe weather awareness program that was held on Wednesday, May 15, in the school cafeteria. Students were provided materials including MEMA Coloring Book “The ABC’s of MEMA”, the MEMA Activity Book, and pencils from MEMA. There was a slide show on the aspects of severe weather including natural disasters and man-made disasters where the students could engage in a question and answer session.
