A graveside service for Mr. Luther Denton Yates of Winona were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 30, at Hebron Baptist Church cemetery near Vaiden. The Rev. Billy Little officiated the service.
Mr. Yates passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at Diversicare of Eupora at the age of 96. He was born to William and Ozie Mann Yates on April 15, 1929. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Winona. In his younger years, Luther enjoyed hunting, buying, selling, and attending auctions. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Yates of Lakeland, Fla.; sister, Beverly Ruth Yates of Oklahoma; brothers, Jimmy Yates of Grenada, James "Doug" Yates of Oklahoma, and Joe Yates of Oklahoma; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Yates; son, Cary Gale Yates and nine siblings.
