The Winona Christian basketball teams finished out the regular season last week with one game against Central Holmes.
The Lady Stars got their biggest win of the season as they took a 49-42 win over the Lady Trojans, handing them their first loss in district play this year.
The Stars couldn’t overcome a big halftime deficit and lost 63-50 to the Trojans.
Both teams advance to the district 2-AAA Tournament this week, which will be hosted by Oak Hill.
The Lady Stars are the No. 2 seed in this week’s district tournament and will take on Oak Hill on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The championship game is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. while the consolation game is 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Winona Christian boys are the No. 4 seed in the tournament and were scheduled to take on Indianola on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play top seed Oak Hill on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. The boys championship game is set for 4:45 p.m. while the consolation game is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
Winona Christian girls 49, Central Holmes 42
The Lady Stars finished off the regular season with a big win over top seed Lady Trojans last week.
Central Holmes led 7-6 at the end of the first before Winona Christian outscored the Lady Trojans 20-15 in the second to lead 26-22 at the half. Central Holmes fought back in the third and outscored Winona 13-10 in the third to cut the lead to 36-35 going into the fourth. The Lady Stars outscored the Lady Trojans 13-7 in the fourth for the final margin.
Audrey Eldridge led Winona with 18 points and nine rebounds while Bella Roberts had a huge game with 15 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and five steals. Olivia Brooks had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Central Holmes boys 63, Winona Christian 50
The Trojans used a huge second period to pull away and beat the Stars.
Winona Christian led 10-6 at the end of the first period but Central Holmes got going and outscored the Stars 34-10 in the second to take a 40-20 lead at the half. Winona outscored Central Holmes 15-11 in the third and 15-12 in the fourth to cut into the deficit but it wasn’t enough as the Trojans held on for the win.
Jake Ware led Winona Christian with 28 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Collin Parkinson had nine points, five rebounds and four assists while Landon Bland ha six points and seven rebounds.
