It was a rough week on the softball fields for the Winona Lady Tigers.
Winona lost all three games by the run rule, falling 11-0 to Water Valley, 16-1 to Eupora and 15-3 to Choctaw County.
Winona was schedule to travel to Riverside on Tuesday and will return to action on Tuesday, March 23 as they host Humphreys County. On Thursday, March 25, Winona will host Humphreys County.
Water Valley 11, Winona 0
The Tigers managed just one hit as the Blue Devils took a four-inning, run-rule victory.
Water Valley scored four in the first, two in the second and five in the fourth.
Winona was outhit 6-1 in the contest. Alexis Matthews had Winona’s only hit. Dorthy Martin also drew a walk for Winona.
Olivia Swindle started and pitched two innings, giving up six runs on four hits and six walks while striking out three. Matthews pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up five unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one.
Eupora 16, Winona 1
The Lady Eagles banged out 16 this and took advantage of seven errors to take a three-inning, run-rule win over the Lady Tigers on Thursday.
Winona scored a run in the top of the third before Eupora scored nine in the bottom of the first. The Lady Eagles added six in the second and one in the third.
Winona had three hits in the contest. Alexis Matthews signed and scored a run while Marilois Ussery singled and drove in a run. Dorthy Martin had Winona’s other hit while Mia Coy Bridges also drew a walk.
Matthews started and pitched all two innings for Winona.
Choctaw County 15, Winona 3
The Lady Chargers used a pair of big innings to take a five-inning, run-rule win over the Lady Tigers on Saturday.
Winona scored two in the top of the first before Choctaw answered with seven in the bottom of the first. Winona scored its last run in the third to cut the score to 7-3. Choctaw added eight in the bottom of the fourth for the final margin.
Winona had just one hit and committed eight errors. Marilois Ussery doubled, scored and had an RBI while Alexis Matthews walked three times and scored twice. Aasjahia Garron also drew a walk for Winona. Matthews also had three stolen bases.
Matthews pitched all four innings for the Lady Tigers.
