The Winona High School cross-country girls and boys teams will participate in their fourth meet of the season as they head to Clinton take part in the MC/Watson Ford Invitational Saturday.
The Lady Tigers and Tigers are coached by veteran coach Chris McRae, who also handles the track teams at WHS.
Members of the girls’ squad are senior Dani Tompkins, junior Bailey Holly, sophomore Murry Catherine Alderman, freshmen Bella Durham and Anna Beth Walton, and seventh graders Chloe Drake, Ja’Kayla Gholston and Lawanda Loggins.
The boys’ team consists of junior Noah Durham, sophomores Nate Henson, Thomas Rosamond and Ahmaud Seawood, freshman Aiden Windham, and seventh graders Ben Rosamond and Riley Windham.
At the Eagle Claw Invitational on Sept. 25 in Eupora, Alderman had the best time for the girls in the 5000-meter event in 28:23.41 to place 17th overall. Walton was right behind her in 28:24.68, and Tompkins was 29th overall in 29:55.47. Holly came in 37th in 30:44.67.
For the boys, Durham was fifth overall with a time of 19:36.84. Rosamond was 12th in 21:12.66, and Windham was 13th in 21:28. Seawood was 40th in 26:29.40.
On Sept. 11 at the French Camp Invitational, Alderman was 45th overall in 28:14, and Walton was 48th in 29:21. Durham was 12th for the boys in 19:26, and Rosamond was 27th in 21:34. Henson was 46th overall in 23:03, and Seawood was 77th in 26:04.
On Aug. 28 at the 5-Star City Invitational in Senatobia, Alderman placed 32nd in 30:17.20, and Walton was 43rd in 32:21.50. For the boys, Durham was 24th in 21:45.50, and Windham was 30th in 22:25.80. Rosamond came in 40th in 23:28.60, and Henson came in 68th in 25:55.40. Seawood was 91st in 30:44.30.
Winona will run again Oct. 23 at the French Camp Classic. They host their own meet on Oct. 28 before the State 3A meet on Nov. 8 in Clinton.
