The Winona Christian Lady Stars had a good week on the softball diamond.
The Lady Stars took a big 15-11 win over Pillow on Monday and then beat Washington 13-4 on Tuesday.
Winona Christian was scheduled to play at Canton on Monday and host the Lady Panthers on Tuesday.
Winona Christian 15, Pillow 11
The Lady Stars took advantage of eight walks and took a four-run win over the Lady Mustangs on Monday.
Each team scored four runs in the first inning while Pillow scored one in the second inning. But Winona exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning to go up 12-5. Each team scored three runs in the sixth inning while Pillow finished with three runs in the seventh.
Winona Christian had 15 hits and drew eight walks. Gowan Cain led the Lady Stars at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs while Hannah Robertson was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Hanna Ware was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Allie Leach was 2-for-3 with two walks and two run scored. Makayla McDaniel was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs while Brantley Stanford tripled and scored three runs. Lily Welch was also 2-for-2 and scored two runs.
Cain started in the circle and got the win, pitching five innings and giving up seven runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out four. Stanford pitched the last two innings and gave up three runs on six hits and a walk.
Winona Christian 13, Washington 4
The Lady Stars banged out 16 hits and took a nine-run win over the Lady Generals on Tuesday.
Winona scored three runs in the top of the first while Washington scored single runs in the first and second and added two in the third and led 4-3. But Winona scored three in the third, four in there sixth and three in the seventh to take the win.
Gowan Cain had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a home run, double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Hannah Robertson was 3-for-4 with four runs scored while Makayla McDaniel was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Allie Leach was 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two walks, three runs scored and three RBIs. Teri Cain and Brantley Stanford were each 2-for-5.
Stanford started in the circle and went three innings and gave up four runs on six hits while striking out three. Gowan Cain pitched the next four scoreless innings and scattered six hits while striking out six.
