The Carroll Academy softball team opened up the season, winning three of five games this past week.
The Lady Rebels beat Central Holmes 4-3, Manchester 4-1 and North Sunflower 4-1. They Lady Rebels lost 2-0 to Benton and 4-3 to Indianola.
Carrol was scheduled to return to action this week as they were set to travel to Pillow on Monday and to Tunica on Tuesday. The Lady Rebels will finish out the week on Friday at North Sunflower.
Benton 2, Carroll 0
The Lady Rebels managed only two hits as they dropped a five-inning game to the Lady Raiders to end the day on Saturday.
Benton scored one in the second and fifth innings and outhit Carroll 7-3.
Mary Braxton Cobb was 2-for-2 and had three stolen bases while Bella Carter had Carroll’s other hit.
Carroll 4, Central Holmes 3
The Lady Rebels scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third to take a one-run win over the Lady Trojans in a time-limit game.
Central Holmes scored one in the top of the first before Carroll scored three in the bottom of the frame. The Lady Trojans tied up the game with two runs in the top of the second. Carroll then scored one in the bottom of the third to take the win.
Carroll only had three hits as Helen Claire Cobb singled, stole two bases and scored a run. Presley Woods singled and drove in a run while Bella Carter and Meri Brynn Reeves and Natalie Kelly each scored runs. Alana Garrett also had two stolen bases.
Peyton Perry started and pitched all three innings, giving up one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out two.
Indianola 4, Carroll 3
The Lady Colonels scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a one-run win over the Lady Rebels on Saturday.
Carroll struck first with two runs in the top of the first and led 3-1 before Indianola scored three runs in the bottom of the third.
Indianola outhit Carroll 6-3 in the contest. Bella Carter tripled and scored a run while Peyton Perry singled and drove in a run. Helen Claire Cobb also singled and scored while Meri Brynn Reeves had two stolen bases.
Peyton Perry started and pitched all three innings, giving up four runs o six hits and two walks while striking out two.
Carroll 4, Manchester 1
The Lady Revels scored in every inning and took a four-run win over the Lady Mavericks to open the day on Saturday.
Carrol scored single runs in the first and third and three in the second.
Carroll had eight hits in the contest as Lexi McClain was 2-for-2. Bella Carter, Peyton Perry, Presley Woods and Shelbi Laine Kelly each singled and scored a run. Mary Braxton Cobb also had two RBIs while Helen Claire Cobb had two RBIs. Woods also had two stolen bases.
Peyton Perry pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up one run on three hits and struck out two.
Carroll 8, North Sunflower 3
The Lady Rebels scored six runs in the fourth inning and took a five-run win over the Lady Wave on Friday to open the season.
Each team scored two runs in the third before Carroll scored six runs in the fourth.
Carroll had nine hits in the contest as Bella Carter was 3-for-3 and Peyton Perry was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Alana Garrett walked twice and scored twice while Helen Claire Cobb singled and scored two runs. The Lady Rebels had 10 stolen bases as Garrett had three steals. Mary Braxton Cobb and Presley Woods each had two steals apiece.
Perry Peyton started and pitched all four innings for the Lady Rebels to pick up the win.
