Principals Coretta Green and Khalilah Tate presented data to the Carroll County School District Board of Trustees that showed that students in the district are growing. They are learning, but there is still work to do.
Tate showed that in reading students are making progress and are growing and moving from urgent intervention/intervention to at or above grade level. She did acknowledge that there were some areas that needed work.
“But, it shows the progress the children are making,” she said.
Green echoed the same sentiment as Tate, there are areas where students can improve. Eighth grade math being one of those areas, but, she said the results also showed their students are growing, they are learning and they are improving.
“We know that we have work to do,” Superintendent Jim Ray said. “It’s no secret that we’re a D and we have to do the work. But, our data shows our students are growing.”
Tate and Green said assessments recently wrapped up and they don’t have those results right now, but will be given when they have them.
Also, the board approve a purchase from Head Start for two 2016 Cummings buses for $10,000 each.
Transportation Director Dewitt Cobbins said the buses are in very good shape. He said one had less than 80,000 miles and the other had less than 60,000.
“That’s a really good deal,” Board President Donnie Wiltshire said.
“Let the Lord keep blessing us like that,” Trustee John Phillips said.
