Winona Mayor Aaron Dees and Ward 4 Alderman Charles Harris are seeking the public’s help in finding those responsible for painting graffiti on a bridge on Stafford-Wells Road near the Winona-Montgomery Municipal Airport.
Harris said he began receiving calls about the graffiti Thursday morning. Dees said the incident is believed to have happened between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
“We just want the person who is responsible for this to come forward,” Dees said.
“If they come forward and clean it off, that’s alright with me,” Harris said.
Dees said he was told the graffiti was not there Wednesday morning.
“I’ve talk to people and Charles has talked to people, and they all said it was fine Wednesday,” Dees said.
Dees and Harris agreed that the person responsible needs to know that what they did to deface public property isn’t tolerated within the city limits.
The bridge is littered with hateful phrases attacking immigrants and the LGBTQ community, politically-charged language, and symbols like skulls, hearts, and scarlet letters.
Just down the road on Foltz Road, outside the city limits, another graffiti-ridden bridge has been painted with fresh graffiti of smiley faces and skulls similar to the one on Stafford-Wells.
Dees and Harris said they’re willing to work with the county to find those responsible for the graffiti.
