Carroll Academy’s junior guard Noah Beck broke a school record with a 52-point performance as the Rebels defeated Deer Creek 81-56.
Carroll coach Stephen Crenshaw said it was a performance for the ages for Beck.
“I didn’t really realize it until late in the game,” Crenshaw said. “I knew he was over 30, and once he got close to 50, he hit another gear. I haven’t quite seen anything like it. I only have five high school players and wasn’t able to pull him. They kept scoring and Noah just had one of those nights. He was able to drive to the rim any time he wanted. We have five guard and spread it out and he was able to drive on them any time he wanted.”
Beck came out hot as he hit three 3-pointers in the first period and had 13 points as Carroll outscored Deer Creek 23-9 in the period.
Beck only had four free throws in the second period as each team scored 15 points, and Carroll led 38-24 at the half.
Beck started to warm back up in the third period as he pumped in 12 points to bring his total to 29 points as the Rebels outscored the Warriors 16-10 to lead 54-34 going to the fourth.
In the fourth, Beck finished with 23 points, making six two-points and one 3-pointer while going 8-of-11 from the free-throw line to break the school record as Carroll outscored Deer Creek 27-21 for the final margin.
Beck finished the night 13-of-30 from the field, 4-of-13 from the 3-point line and 14-of-20 from the free-throw line. He also had five rebounds and three steals.
“In the fourth, I started to hear the daddies talking behind me,” Crenshaw said. “You could hear the talk and the mummer that he was getting close to the school record of 47. At that point, I wasn’t going to take him out. I was going to give him a chance to break the record. We couldn’t really put the game away, and they were sort of mad at me but I wasn’t trying to run it up. They kept scoring and the kids kept feeding him. We may not have many highlights this season, but I think that will definitely be one of them.”
Mathis Beck also had 12 points while Drake Dunn had 11 points.
