Local citizens of Carroll County gathered on Monday at Carroll County's Courthouse to celebrate Veterans Day by honoring and remembering all veterans of Carroll County who have sacrificed so much to help keep this Great Nation free.
The event was hosted by the Third Arrow Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Michael H. Ball VFW Post 12191. The featured speaker was Lt. Col. Curtis J. Garrette, the Commander of Camp McCain who spoke on "Freedom is not Free," emphasizing the bravery, courage and sacrifices made by all veterans who have served and made possible the freedoms we enjoy today.
Students from both Carroll Academy and J.Z. George High School issued proclamations to local, county and city officials. Commemorative wreaths were placed at the Veterans Monument honoring and remembering all veterans of Carroll County while veterans were introduced and honored.
The oldest surviving World War II veteran from Carroll County, Mr. James Cox of Vaiden, was honored and presented with a flag by the Michael H. Ball VFW Post 12191.
