At the Monday, July 15, special called meeting of the Carroll County Board of Supervisors, the meeting began with Sheriff Clint Walker giving prayer. Immediately following the invocation, the Board jumped into the business of garbage collection.
“We’ve had y’all as our garbage disposal company for several years and y’all have done an outstanding job - but in the last six or eight months we have had more problems than we’ve ever had since y’all have been here,” Board President and Beat 1 Supervisor Jim Neil introduced the topic of discussion.
He explained the multitude of issues that Carroll County citizens have reported in the past year from garbage not being picked up to garbage being left behind on the roads. After the introduction of the topic, the Board heard from Arrow Disposal Services Inc. Representative Jimmie Moore.
“First of all, it’s our problem, it is not yours, we understand that. You’re not the only Board of Supervisors that I’ve stood before in the last several months to listen to these issues to try to address them. And it’s no reflection of Carroll County, please don’t think it is. It’s every county where we work,” Moore addressed the Board concerning the issue. “The labor pool is shallow, trying to find people that will actually do the type of work that we need done,” he stated.
He continued to explain that many of the garbage trucks currently running in Carroll County are actually borrowed from other sites and counties. He explained that the cause of the bulk of issues reported is due to labor and equipment shortage, however he also cited new regulations, and manufacturing issues among other reasons. He stated that ADSI is doing what they can to address service wide issues. Currently, they are working on getting work orders completed and waiting for truck manufacturers to complete their orders for new trucks.
