Preparations for the annual Bogue Creek Festival are underway.
The annual day of family fun is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 9 at Lancaster Pecan Grove off Mississippi Highway 51 in Duck Hill, according to a flyer provided by Miranda Dean with the Red Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
“All the proceeds go to the volunteer fire department,” said Dean. “We’re trying to get it built. We haven’t gotten it built yet.”
She said the fire department has received bids on building the station.
“We should be, hopefully, proceeding with the building in the spring,” said Dean. “We are still accepting bids.”
Dean said she expects more than a thousand people to visit the festival, rain or shine.
“We’re trying to get 50 vendors. Right now, we’re around 30-35. We have a few more weeks,” said Dean. “People wait until the last few weeks to see how the weather’s going to be.”
Everyone is invited to visit the pecan grove and enjoy train rides, horseback rides, bounce houses, a dunking booth and face painting, Dean said.
“We have a really big inflatable this year. I hope it fits under those trees,” Dean said, laughing. “We can always find another spot for it if it doesn’t go there.”
She said she is looking forward to vendors including Small Time Hotdogs, Top Notch Concessions, Zak’s Kitchen, and Circle L Enterprises.
Exceptional entertainers will be at the festival to fill the air with a cornucopia of melodies.
Performers for the day will be Bloodline, In Debt, Good Ol’ Boys, Pine Blakely, Duck Hill Hillbillies and Meggie Sykes, according to Dean.
“I hope everybody comes out and has a really good time,” Dean said. “We have really good entertainment this year.”
Everyone who would like to be a vendor at the festival can call Dean at 662-552-7878 or Cathy Sykes at 662-310-0539 or send an email to boguecreekfestival@yahoo.com or redhillvolfiredept@yahoo.com. Booth fees are $50 without electricity and $75 with electricity. The deadline to apply for a booth is Aug. 31, but Dean and Sykes can be reached for extensions.
