Little Willie Farmer isn’t having a bad 2022, and after being down a little because of the Coronavirus, it’s a good thing.
Farmer recently went on tour and performed at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Walton, Fla. Farmer was on tour with R.L. Boyce, Lady Trucker, and several others in Fort Myers, Fla.
“Those college students showed us a good time. They were some real nice people,” Farmer said. “Those college students loved the blues. There were a bunch of college students down there. They were some really nice people.”
Farmer said the people in Fort Walton took care of them. “We didn’t want for anything,” he said. “They really took care of us. It was a wonderful time.”
He said there are also dates for the tour that are planned for Clarkdale, Grenada and Arkansas.
Farmer said during the peak of the pandemic, he wasn’t able to perform as much. A lot of his shows were cancelled and it hurt profit wise. But, he’s starting to see more and more venues open back up.
“Yeah, it knocked out a lot of concerts but there’s nothing you can do about it. I’ve seen it open up a little bit. People missed the music,” he said.
Also, Farmer is gearing up to compete in the International Blues Competition in Memphis on May 6. Farmer won the competition in Indianola.
And while he’s preparing for a tour and for the contest, Farmer is working on an album. And this one is solely through him.
“I’m about to cut another album. And I’m doing everything myself. When you work with other people there’s a middle man but with me doing it, I don’t need a middle man,” he said.
Farmer said his son, Christopher “Topher” Townsend is helping him with this album.
“I plan on putting it out the first of summer. I really hadn’t named it yet,” he said.
Farmer said he’s thrilled to be back playing venues, but the next time he goes to Fort Walton, he’s flying not driving.
“It was too much traveling for me. It was 15 hours one way,” he said.
