For many awaiting the reopening of Catfish Zone, the wait is over. Saturday, Eyvonne Brown and her son Corey Williams celebrated the re-opening of their restaurant. The mother-son duo moved to the Old Sonic building after spending eight years right beside their new location.
“It was so wonderful,” Brown said. “I am so elated! I feel like a got a million dollars.” During their celebration, they offered a special for $9.99, along with having refreshments for the grand opening. Brown said she thought people would just enjoy the refreshments but they wanted the special also.
“We did almost 400 Saturday,” she said. “I’m still tired from it but I’m happy.”
Today, Catfish Zone begins for first operational day in their new restaurant. She said she’s still a little tired from Saturday, but she’s preparing for the influx.
“People have told me I’m gonna experience the real grand opening tomorrow,” Brown said Wednesday.
She said when she and her son announced their move, they began to receive donations from people to help with their renovation costs. Brown said they hit some obstacles during the renovation, like someone duping her out of thousands and not completing the job, but they overcame.
“My son told me ‘Momma, we’re probably not going to open until March. I told him we’ll be open by Valentine’s Day, you just wait and see. I remember my momma always used to tell me to pray every day, don’t worry about nothing and pray about everything. That’s what I did,” she said.
Brown said at their new location, they will be open Thursdays through Saturdays and every first Sunday.
