Winona High’s tennis team went 2-1 in team competition last week.
They knocked off Greenwood High 7-0 in matches last Tuesday in Winona. They dropped a 4-3 decision to Kosciusko last Thursday, and defeated Senatobia 6-1 last Friday.
Against Greenwood, Kirven McCrory won his boys singles match over Darrell Harris 6-1, 6-0. In girls singles, Murry Catherine Alderman beat Arlonda Henderson 6-1, 6-1.
In No. 1 boys doubles, Kristian Williams and Jemarius Sanders defeated the GHS duo of Luisha Stanley and Terron Westerfield 6-1, 6-1. In No. 2 boys doubles, Javien Jackson and Gunner Wilkes defeated Gregory McLaurin and Trevor Russell 6-1, 6-1.
In No. 1 girls doubles, Rhianna Drake and Radleigh Woods beat Kendell Smith and Davianna Brent 6-4, 6-1. In No. 2 girls doubles, Lana Branch and Janey Beth McRae picked up a 6-2, 2-0 (retired) win over Kortney Crosby and Stephanie Lugo.
In the mixed doubles match, Jordan Leech and Molly Tompkins defeated David Kelly and Janiya Henderson 6-2, 6-3.
Against Kosciusko, the Tigers got wins in boys and girls singles, and in No. 1 boys doubles. McCrory defeated Eric Dotson 6-2, 6-4, and Alderman beat Emmelee Myers 6-1. 6-1. The WHS duo of Sanders and Williams defeated Alex Hernandez and Daniel Yan 6-4, 6-7, 10-6.
In No. 1 girls doubles, Woods and Drake lost to Kayden Tyler and Olivia Cockroft 6-2, 6-2. In No. 2 girls doubles, Branch and McRae lost to Anna Grace Kuhn and Kayla Anderson 6-0, 6-1.
In No. 2 boys doubles, Wilkes and Jackson fell 6-1, 6-2 to Jorge Orduna and Robert Pickle. In mixed doubles, Leech and Tompkins lost to Thomas Sims and Mary Patton Henderson 6-2, 6-3.
Against Senatobia, Alderman got WHS on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anita Macado. In No. 1 boys doubles, McCrory and Williams beat Lee Hatton and Aiden Connard 6-2, 6-4. In No. 2 boys doubles, Sanders and Wilkes defeated Evan Riley and Jacob Waller 6-2, 6-2.
In No. 1 girls doubles, Drake and Woods won their match 6-1, 6-4 over Avery McNail and Marle Dodson. In No. 2 girls doubles, Eden Leech and McRae defeated Elle Hatton and Gracie Suggs 7-5, 6-2. Jordan Leech and Tompkins beat Keighan Wortham and Gabby Booker 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
The lone loss came in boys singles as Jackson dropped a 6-3, 7-6 decision to Bryson Thomas.
The Winona netters, who played East Webster Tuesday, go to Leake Central Thursday.
