Winona High’s baseball team picked up a 9-7 Region 3-3A win on March 21 to improve to 2-0 in district play.
The Tigers’ trio of Jacob Myers, Kam’ron Robinson and Danarius Robinson held the Cowboys to seven hits. Myers got the win on the mound as he went the first three frames, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out three. K. Robinson went 1 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on one hit, walking two and striking out four. D. Robinson got the save with 2 2/3 innings of work, allowing two runs, walking four and fanning six.
At the plate, D. Robinson had a single, double, two RBIs and scored four runs. Griffin Faulkner drove in three runs with two singles, and Connor Helms had a single, double, RBI and scored a run.
K. Robinson had two singles and scored two runs, and Aubrey Bailey had two singles and scored once. Gavin Vance had a single, and Myers scored one run.
In a game played last Saturday in Greenville, the Tigers scored 13 runs in the top of the fifth frame en route to a 24-5 win over O’Bannon High School to improve to 7-3 on the season.
Winona tacked on three runs in the first, six in the third and two in the fourth. O’Bannon plated three in the first, and one each in the third and fourth. The Tigers outhit the Greenwaves 15-5 and were aided by eight defensive errors by O’Bannon.
Helms lit up O’Bannon pitching with a 4-for-5 showing. He had three singles, a double, scored four runs and drove in six. Vance also had a banner day as he had three singles, drove in five runs and scored twice. D. Robinson had two singles, scored twice and had two RBIs.
Myers scored four times and had a double, and Faulkner had a single, two RBIs and scored four times. Bailey had an RBI double and scored a run, and Zach Jefcoat had a single, RBI and scored once. Ja’mes Bays had a two RBIs and scored three times, and K. Robinson had a triple and scored once. Chance Richardson had a single, RBI and scored a run.
Myers got the win on the mound in relief of Helms. Myers went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking one and fanning five. Helms worked one inning, giving up three runs, walking five and striking out two. D. Robinson pitched one inning, allowing one hit, walking two and fanning three.
Winona, which played at Yazoo County Tuesday, hosts Ruleville Friday and goes to Senatobia Saturday.
