Neither the girls or boys basketball teams had much success on the hardwood as both teams dropped all three games last week.
The Jaguars came up a bit short in seeking their third win of the season as Kosciusko claimed a 49-45 win Saturday in Kosciusko.
The Whippets led 14-7 after the first frame, 28-20 at the half and 40-34 after the third period.
D’Anthony McGlothan led J.Z. George (2-8) with 22 points. Kendarius Head had eight.
In the girls game, Kosciusko won 62-13 as it led 19-2 after one, 38-9 at the half and 60-10 after the third period.
Natijah Basin led the Lady Jags (3-9) with seven points.
In games from last Friday night, the Lady Jags and Jaguars both dropped games on the road at Ethel High School.
The girls lost 50-33 despite only trailing 27-16 at the half. Ethel held a 15-2 scoring edge in the third period to put the game out of reach.
Aaniyah Williams led the way for J.Z. George with 15 points. Basin tacked on seven, and Sharissa Gladness had six points.
The boys fell 63-51 as they led 32-22 at the half. Ethel outscored the Jaguars 23-10 in the third and 18-9 in the fourth quarter.
Alex Criss had 19, and Da’Ravion Seals 14 for the Jags. Rodney Catron finished with 11.
The Jaguars let a slim halftime lead slip away as visiting Kosciusko claimed a 58-48 win on Dec. 7 in North Carrollton.
Kosciusko led 13-12 after one, but the Jags took a 24-23 lead at the half. The Whippets led 43-35 after three.
McGlothan had 12 points, and Catron tallied 10 for J.Z. George. Criss and Seals had seven each.
In the girls game, Kosciusko prevailed 62-32 at it led 18-9 after one, 41-19 at the half and 60-23 after the third.
Williams led the Lady Jags with 19 points. Basin had five.
J.Z. George is at Grenada Friday. Saturday’s game at Leflore County has been canceled. The Jaguars will be competing in the East Webster Tournament Monday and Tuesday. They play Louisville Monday at 1:30 p.m., and take on Starkville Academy Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
