The J.Z. George baseball team opened its 2022 season with a 17-3 thrashing of Charleston High School on Saturday at the Carroll County Recreation Park.
The Jaguars got an outstanding performance from junior Brandon McKenzie on the mound and at the plate. McKenzie went 4-of-4 as he belted a three-run homer with a single, double and triple. He drove in a total of four runs. On the mound, he allowed the three runs on two walks and no hits, striking out seven.
J.Z. George scored three runs each in the first and second innings, nine in the third and two in the fourth.
J.T. Mann had two singles, and Keiyhaun Wilks had a single and drove in two runs. Colten Acy, Michael Thomas and Alan Busby had a single apiece.
The Jaguars host Riverside on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
