Services for Linda Cooper Perkins of Carrollton were held on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11:30 a.m. preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m. at Carrollton Baptist Church.
Mrs. Perkins, 77, died on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at her home in Carrollton.
Mrs. Perkins was born at Greenwood Leflore Hospital on November 18, 1947, to Richard Alvin Cooper and Estelle Campbell Cooper. She was a graduate of J.Z. George High School, received her bachelor’s and master’s degree at Delta State University, and was a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent English Language Arts. She was selected as a Mississippi Economic Council STAR Teacher five times.
Mrs. Perkins spent most of her adult life in the classroom, teaching others to use the English language effectively and efficiently at Noxubee County Public School, North Panola High School, Strider Academy, Pillow Academy, Carroll Academy, and Winona Public School.
Upon her retirement in 2010, Mrs. Perkins authored a nonfiction love story of her parent’s nineteen month separation during World War II called Sunshine in an Otherwise Gloomy World. She also worked with the Special Populations program part time at J.Z. George High School.
She was an active member of Carrollton Baptist Church, where she served in every avenue a woman can in a Southern Baptist Church, except preacher’s wife. Mrs. Perkins dedicated her time, talents, and prayers to the church, its body, and its goal of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In her community, Mrs. Perkins was most recently involved in All God’s Children, the Evergreen Cemetery Association Board, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Processing Center in Atlanta, the Carroll Society for the Preservation of Antiquities, and the Carrollton Pilgrimage Board.
Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donny Perkins, all of Carrollton. She is survived by her daughter, Kim DeLoach and her husband, Bubba, of Carrollton; two sons, Ric Perkins and his wife, Liz, of Itta Bena, and Benji Perkins and his partner, Tiffany Smith, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Taylor Kane and her husband, Jarrod, of Brandon, Hardin DeLoach of Carrollton, Madison DeLoach and his wife, Mary Katherine, of Itta Bena, Cody Perkins of Starkville, Buffy Perkins and Walker Perkins both of Itta Bena; and two great grandchildren, Vivi Claire and Wes Kane of Brandon.
Pallbearers were her nephews. Honorary pallbearers are her Vista Del Mar vacation crew, her beloved Sunday School Class, and her classmates of the J.Z. George Class of 1965.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
