The Winona High School girls volleyball team went 3-2 in matches played last week.
The Lady Tigers (7-4 overall) picked up wins over Senatobia High School and Eupora High School by 2-0 counts at their own tournament last Saturday. Winona defeated Senatobia 25-20 and 25-20, and knocked off Eupora 25-17 and 25-20.
Winona started the week with a 3-1 win over Noxapater High School last Monday. The Lady Tigers lost the first set 25-22, but won the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-20.
Winona fell 3-2 at Water Valley High School last Tuesday. The Lady Tigers won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18, but Water Valley won the final three sets 25-18, 25-22 and 15-13.
Winona hosted Grenada High School last Thursday and dropped a 3-1 decision. The Lady Chargers won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-20, but Winona came back and won the fourth set 25-23. Grenada closed out the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
Winona, which played at Ethel High School Tuesday, returns to action Sept. 2 at home against Noxubee County.
J.Z. George Volleyball
The Lady Jaguars secured their first win of the season as they rallied for a 3-2 victory over visiting Ruleville last Thursday in North Carrollton.
Ruleville won the first two sets by scores of 27-25 and 25-17, but J.Z. George (1-5) took the final three sets 25-23, 25-21 and 15-12.
J.Z. George dropped a 3-1 decision to Leflore County last Tuesday in Itta Bena. The Lady Tigers won the first two sets 26-24 and 25-19, but the Lady Jags pulled out a 25-16 win in the third set. Leflore took the fourth set 25-8.
J.Z. George, which played host to Northside Monday and McAdams Tuesday, goes to Leland High School Thursday.
