J.Z. George Softball
The J.Z. George girls fastpitch softball team picked up its first win of the season with a 24-2 victory over Holmes County Central last Friday night.
The Lady Jaguars (1-3) collected 25 hits in knocking off the Lady Jaguars. J.Z. George scored 10 runs each in the first and third frames and four in the second. Holmes scored two in the second.
Tysalyn Meeks led the way for the Lady Jags with four singles, three runs scored and one RBI. Kaylee Wilkinson had three singles and a home run. She scored four runs and drove in two. Saralyn Roberts had a single and two doubles, drove in three runs and scored twice. Jessie Cornish had three singles, scored three runs and two RBIs.
Rylan Hancock had a single and double, three RBIs and scored once. Ta’Mya Robinson had two singles, scored two runs and drove in a run, and Cady Jones had two singles and one RBI. Trinity McCaskill and Abby Clardy had a double each. Clardy also had two RBIs. Dakiya Robinson had a single.
Jones got the win in the circle, giving up one run on one hit, striking out four.
The Lady Jaguars could only muster one hit in a 17-0 home loss to Riverside High School last Thursday.
Riverside plated one run in the first, 14 in the second and two in the third.
Jessie Cornish had a single for the Lady Jags. Roberts took the loss in the circle. She gave up all 17 runs on eight hits, walking 10 and fanning one.
In a game from Feb. 20, the Lady Jaguars dropped an 11-0 decision at French Camp Academy. French Camp plated four runs in the first, five in the third and two in the fourth. FCA outhit J.Z. George 9-3 and took advantage of four errors committed by the Lady Jags.
Ta’Mya Robinson had a double, and Kaylee Wilkinson and Dakiya Robinson had a single each for the Lady Jags.
Roberts worked all four innings in the circle, allowing 11 runs on nine hits, walking four and striking out two.
The Lady Jags, who hosted French Camp Tuesday, visit Riverside High School Thursday.
J.Z. George Baseball
The Jaguars fell to 0-3 with a 15-5 setback to North Panola Friday in North Carrollton.
North Panola plated four runs each in the second and third innings, one in the fourth and six in the fifth. J.Z. George scored two in the first and three in the fifth.
For the Jaguars, Lavarious Holmes had a double, RBI and scored a run, and Amir Pointer had a single, RBI and scored once.
Dylan Nobles (0-2) gave up eight runs (all earned) on two hits, walking six and fanning six in 22/3 innings of work. Holmes relieved and failed to record an out. He walked two. Josh Flemming went 21/3 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on three hits, walking five and striking out six.
In a game from last Thursday, the Jaguars surrendered 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as they dropped a 19-9 decision to Holmes County Central in a game played in Durant.
Holmes tacked on four runs in the first and fifth innings. J.Z. George scored four runs in the first, three in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Lavarious Holmes had a single and double, and Sebastian Wells had a single and drove in two runs. Holmes also scored two runs for the Jaguars.
Kaleb Mulvihill (0-1) worked three-plus innings, allowing eight runs on three hits, walking four and fanning four. Ashton Thomas got one out in the fourth, allowing five runs on two hits, walking three. Flemming worked one full inning, giving up six runs on one hit, walking six and striking out two.
J.Z. George, which played host to Winona Christian School Monday, entertains McAdams Thursday.

The Jaguar archery team opened its season recently in a shoot against O’Bannon High School.
J.Z. George defeated O’Bannon 2,713 points to 2,253 points. Individual girls scores for J.Z. George were Galaxie Little (270), Ava Hollis (246), Bella Jones (234), Karen Favela (232), Shyeria Hemphill (218), Jakilya Ghoston (213), Adrienne Crowder (191), Khadijah Davis (173), McKenzie Ainsworth (154), Nakia Fleming (153) and Taylor Sullivan (99).
Individual boys scores were Dustin Dickerson (261), Kelton Sanders (232), Jayden Normal (223), Kelden Blackmon (212), Payton Hobson (182), D’Andre Jones (181), Tyler Duren (163) and Cotravis Harris (146).
J.Z. George is slated to have a shoot against Winona and Pillow Academy Thursday.
