The Kilmichael Board of Aldermen held a special called meeting Thursday evening at 6 p.m. The special called meeting was held because the board did not have a quorum to conduct their monthly meeting on Tuesday.
Board Attorney Lane Greenlee told the board that they needed to take two roads from public use to private use. He said the roads are on the property belonging to a homeowner in town. Greenlee said because of the roads, the owner’s property is being assessed at one and a half acres.
“But, it really should be two acres,” he said. “If we kill them [the roads] the town will be able to receive more [tax revenue].”
The board voted to kill the two roads, making them now private.
Also, Public Works Director Josh Pearson said contractors working on Alva Stage Road hit a water line in five different places.
“We didn’t know it went that far down Alva Stage, we thought it stopped, we know now,” Pearson said. He said the leaks were stopped, but people on Alva Stage called stating they were having trouble with their water.
Pearson said they found more leaks and now the problem is now stopped. He said to fix the problem they had to cut everyone from South Rutherford all the way to Highway 82, which includes the Kilmichael Group Home off.
He said they had a valve installed so that if it happens again – which he hopes it does not – the Kilmichael Group Home will still have water.
City Clerk Pauline Hall told the board they needed to set their budget meetings. She said that once she and Mayor Bryan Lott began to work on the budget, they can set their budget work session and their budget hearing for the public.
