The Tuesday evening Kilmichael Board of Alderman meeting was officiated by acting Vice Mayor Earnest Curtis and conducted by Aldermen Wilma Carodine, Matt Bennett and Clay Eldridge. It was noted at the beginning of the meeting that Alderman Bernard Daniels and Mayor Mark Lawson would be absent from the present meeting.
The first matter of business was regarding the Chief of Police Report. Police Chief Barry Gregg started his report off by recapping the success of the Kilmichael Christmas on the Square event.
“Good turn out for the Christmas Parade - and the turn out on the square all the way through the first week - I guess till we quit turning all the lights on… there was people coming. That was nice to see,” Chief Gregg stated.
He moved on to other matters, explaining that the police department truck needed vinyl work done. He presented the Board with a quote from a business in Gluckstadt, It’s Vinyl Y’all as well as an insurance check for the work in the amount of $210. On a motion made by Alderman Eldridge and seconded by Alderwoman Carodine with all in favor, the Board approved the work for the Police Department truck in the amount of $210.
Following this report, the Board briefly discussed updates with the fire department, first hearing from Alderman Bennett as he reported on the fire which took place on Hill Street on the afternoon of New Year’s Day.
“We had three trucks and thirteen fire fighters respond. And they responded within I think five or six minutes of getting the call,” Bennett informed the Board.
He went on to explain that the fire department would begin monthly training, with the nearest date being this Thursday, January 9. In addition, the Minerva-Lodi building is now currently in operational use. However, the new department branch has thankfully yet to have any calls.
