If y’all have been reading my articles for a while, you probably have figured out that I love Jesus and sports!!! For this sports addict, March and the first of April is my favorite time because of March Madness and Championship Basketball.
Last week the University of Connecticut Huskies and their coach Geno Auriemma won their twelfth National Championship. Now that is a story and lesson in itself for another time, but in this short article I wanted to call attention to one of their players Paige Bueckers.
Now Paige has played for UCONN the last five years and coming out of high school you would’ve thought that her road would be pretty easy being that she was one of the TOP 5 players in the country, but her road has been anything but. In that time, she went to two Final Fours, which her team lost, and two of those years she missed the whole season due to severe injuries.
Now a lot of people said that when she got well she needed to declare for the draft, some said that she needed to transfer to a smaller school where there would be less pressure and lower expectations, and some said she should just quit. But Paige did none of that!!! She decided to stick with her team, her coach, and her town and for that she was rewarded.
Last week she scored 17 points, 6 rebounds, and helped her team win a National Championship. Paige’s journey and story reminds me of James 1:12 that says, “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial.”
In our everyday lives we are presented with trials and are met with challenges that may cause us to want to choose the easy way out, but how much more will our reward be when we choose to persevere and overcome.
So, this week work hard and persevere because you never know what awaits at the end. Remember Ms. Faulk loves you, but Jesus loves you more.
