The J.Z. George boys finished 18th overall with 12 points, and the Lady Jags were 22nd with eight team points in the MHSAA Class 2A state track meet last Saturday at Pearl High School.
Velma Jackson won the boys division with 85 points, and Amite County was second with 64 points. Northside came in third with 63 points, and Heidelberg finished fourth with 61 points.
Charleston won the girls division with 118 points, and Puckett claimed second with 66 points. Baldwyn finished third with 44 points, and Heidelberg finished fourth with 42 points.
For the boys, Jeremiah Williams placed fourth in the 400m dash in 53.55. The 4-by-400m relay team of Martavis Banks, Deshaun Hemingway, Jakolbie Cobbins and Williams was fifth in 3:46.15, and the 4-by-800m relay team of Terrence Whitcomb, Cotravis Harris, Tyler Givens and Banks was sixth in 9:30.28.
For the girls, JaMiya Leahman placed fourth in the long jump in 15-11.50 and sixth in the 100m dash in 13.29.
Winona High track
The Class 3A track meet was delayed until Wednesday after rain forced the postponement of the meet last Friday in Pearl. Winona was competing in five girls’ events and four boys’ events. Details were not available by press time.
